Sweater pattern doesn't match

Hi, everyone!
I am trying to knit a sweater like on the image below with a wider yarn:

I started from the bottom. As I see, I have to remove 4 stitches in the middle and add 2 ones on both sides once per six rows. However, it results in the following: As you can see, my sample becomes wider and wider with every row. I cannot understand what is the reason of increasing of the size. I believed, that the same number of stitches should guarantee the same width. But it is not(
I appreciate any suggestion on how to fix this.

Welcome to KH!
These are the trials of designing or reworking a knit sweater. Your idea is good but it may be the different yarn and perhaps a change in tension. That slight unevenness may account for the width. The switch from ribbing to the main pattern may also contribute as the initial few inches always seem tighter than the later rows.
It’s worth trying over with fewer stitches as it’s a very nice design.

Agree with Salmonmac - but wanted to add I love your yarn choice and the overall design. I’d do a different neck if I made it for myself but that’s personal choice as I don’t wearing like roll/turtle necks.

I counted the ribs in the pattern jumper vs your project. You haven’t been decreasing enough stitches. I counted over about 30 rows with a net dec of 2 every sixth row should drop 10 sts but you have only reduced two ribs.

My theory: With a thicker yarn there will be fewer rows per length (in or cm) check the gauge of the finished sweater vs. your work. Then adjust (reduce) the row count between decrease rows to work with your guage?

Oh, I was wondering  if that was a hood or maybe a third sleeve? :joy:

Thank you for the detail analysis of my work!
It looks like a practical solution to fix the issue. I’ll try to increase the row count between dec sts. It should help!

Wow, that is a nice bulky knit. Turned out great. You can tell by the smile on the model.
