Hi everyone. I want to make my own pattern for a babies all in one. I want to knit it with two strands of dk, and as far as I can make out it comes around Aran weight. Any one with any experience knitting like this and how many stitches for my swatch or do I just wing it ![]()
I make a lot of stuff up myself - I rarely use two yarn strands but my advice is to make sketches of what you want to make, actual sized, then start doing the maths based on that and your gauge swatch(es). So, do wing it, in a nutshell.
Very seldom I follow ready patterns so most of the stuff I knit is my own creations. If I have a ready item knitted with the same yarn and needle combination I measure the gauge from that item. Otherwise I just knit a swatch piece to get the gauge and then I do the calculation so I know how many stitches I need.
Thanks for the hints. I’m just being cautious lol, I always made my own patterns when I had a knitting machine but with age have forgotten most of what I knew ![]()
I’m sure a lot of it will come back to you, once you get going!
It is beautiful!
That is perfectly adorable! You’ve knit it beautifully and in a lovely color.
Would you post a pattern link?
It’s fantastic! Well done!
I have written the pattern myself, if there are any mistakes I apologise but you are welcome to try it and please please let me know how you find it.
Going luck ![]()

I don’t think I have much opportunity to knit this one, but I love how it looks (cosy!) and it’s well designed, so thank you for sharing.
