Swap stockinette for basket weave

Hi everyone

I am new and would like to ask a question. I want to knit a cardigan for my daughter, I have a pattern which using stockinette but wanted to change it to a basket weave pattern instead so I was wondering if I do a swatch that measures the same gauge as the stockinette gauge would I be ok to just change it to a basket weave instead?

I would suggest doing a swatch with each stitch pattern, Then you will know whether or not it will work.

Hi,
Keep in mind too that basketweave is a “multiple of” stitch pattern, unlike stockinette. So while you can certainly use it instead if stockinette, you’ll need to do some tweaking for any row whose stitch count is not a full multiple of the repeat.
