Summer hat

I’m trying to knit a summer hat for my daughter and I’m so confused by these instructions. I’ve done the cast on and done the first two rowes of stocking stitching but I don’t understand the rest.

Also need to knit the large size

Rows 3 and 4 are also worked in stockinette (knit one row, purl one row) this time in the first contrast color. These rows begin the brim. Continue to alternate colors every 2 rows.

Under Work Decreases, work Rows 1-10 for the large size. Then work 16 more rows with no decreases also in stockinette.

It will help to circle the rows and stitch numbers for only the large size. That makes the knitting easier.
Would you please crop the 2nd half of page 2? You can use the pencil icon to edit. We can’t post large portions of patterns on the forum due to designer copyright.

I’m quite confused sorry shah. I’m also just using one colour as this is first time doing this and only know knitting I’ve learnt the stocking stitch though. How many rows do I need to do before it decreases? (I also don’t have a clue what the decreasing bit means either).

Stockinette stitch is a good beginning. Working with one color makes everything simpler.
After rows 1 and 2 which you have already done, work 2 more rows in stockinette before the first set of decreases.

For the beginning of the decreases in size L:
Size L work Rows1‐10
Row1‐[K2tog,k11] twelve times to the end or row. (144sts)
Row2‐P.
Row3‐[K2tog,k10] twelve times. (132 sts)
Row4‐P.
Row5‐[K2tog,k9] twelve times. (120sts)
Row6‐P.

For Row 1 that means K2tog k11sts, K2tog K11, K2tog K11 and so on until you’ve repeated the sequence [k2tog, k11] 12times.
Row 2 is purled.
Row 3 is a repeat of K2tog k10, K2tog k10, K2tog k10 and so on until you’ve repeated the sequence [K2tog, k10] 12 times.
Continue in this same way until you have worked row 10.

Once this set of decreases is complete, work in stockinette for 16 more rows with no decreases.

I think I’ve done it completey wrong and got a feeling I’m going to have to start again when it says K2tog do I do just one knit together once or do I do the whole row? I’m so confused and still on row 1 but I’ve been knitting together every stitch and realised I’m going to run out of stitches before even reaching the end (12 times).

Wait do I knit two together then knit 11 then 2 together and so on? Sorry to be a pain and thank you for helping.

OK, so you’ve knit the first 2 rows then repeated them so your up to Row 1 under Work Decreases.

For size large you’re working rows 1-10:
Row1‐[K2tog,k11] twelve times. (144sts) You’ve got it! Knit 2tog, knit 11 and then keep repeating to the end of row: Knit 2tog, knit 11, Knit 2tog, knit 11, Knit 2tog, knit 11, and so on.

Good for you for figuring out the way to work the row.
It’s never a bother to answer questions or reinforce your plan of attack. That’s what we’re here for.

Thank you so much your amazing!! If I get stuck I’ll come back for help ahah. Gutted I have to start over but it’s how we learn. I get called a granny for knitting at my age but I think it’s such a good skill to have and I’ve been knitting since I was little but never anything exciting just basic knitting. Ive knitted 3 blankets and that’s it so far.
