I would like to make this tank, and was curious about subbing the yarn it calls for with someting from KP. I will be placing an order with them tomorrow and would really like to use something from them. Would I be able to use a bulky, just single stranded (like Vacation)? How much should I buy (for the larger size) if that works?
Substituting knitpicks yarn
I bought some Vacation yarn from KP for the Sunset Pullover Pattern (also from KP). It’s a thick and thin bulky yarn – so I’m not sure if it would produce a very sleek look or show the lacy part of the pattern.
IMHO I would use Shine Sport double stranded because it’s a cotten/modal blend. As for bulky yarns, Sparkles is 100% nylon like the yarn used in pattern, except it’s a ladder yarn and variegated. I like my first suggestion much better, though.
Good Luck
Actually, Shine has a worsted weight now. But, Elann’s price on that ribbon yarn called for in the pattern isnt bad! Why do you want to use a bulky weight for that pattern?
I thought maybe with a bulky I could just use a single strand. I am pretty new to knitting, so maybe this is a bad idea? I don’t plan on ever wearing this out of the house. Just want to knit something fairly simple for DH, I think he might like this better than a sweater for himself :eyebrow: . So now I am thinking the Sparkles, just to keep it simple. The price on elann isn’t bad, but I am trying to make it look like I have my yarn addiction under control.
Well, now that I wrote out Sparkles, I think I like the Shine better . I would need 8 balls, is that right? Sorry for the indecisiveness and all the ?s.
7 of the sportweight would work, yardage-wise. If you chose the worsted weight, you’d have to use 10.1 – so 11 – skeins. Since you’ll be aiming for a gauge of 16 st = 4 ‘’ with the yarn double-stranded, you’d be better off with the sportweight.
Thank you!!!
