Substituting for worsted...?

I want to make a hat for a friend from a pattern that calls for worsted… and the yarns I’m ogling seem mostly to be DK or sock weight. Would double-stranding those yarns make them usable for the pattern, do y’all think?

Thanks…

When I knit a hat for DH I double stranded two yarns that were DK weight and it was fabulous. It created a wonderfully thick fabric and was about worsted weight.

I’m not sure how it could be done with verigated yarn - especially if you want them to match up perfectly. You could find a lovely pattern yarn (like plied with two different colors) or a solid color and eaily strand it to get a worsted weight yarn.

Good luck!

Thanks, Sara! (I hadn’t thought about the variegated issue… which is the whole point about the yarns I’m looking at… :wall: ) Back to the drawing board…!

As Sara Jayne said double stranding might work. It all comes down to gauge again though. If you can get gauge using any other yarn I think it would work. So this of course means swatching… :wall: :teehee:

Swa… swa… sorry, don’t know that word…

:teehee: As it turned out, I ended up getting some Artyarns Regal Silk (GORGEOUS STUFF) in worsted, so the issue is put off… for now!
