Substitute yarn--gauge on label or gauge in pattern?

Hi all,
I am trying to substitute yarn in a pattern. The pattern calls for Lana Grossa Pastello and I want to use Lana Grossa Mega Stoppino. Both yarns show on the label a gauge of 13 st per 4 inches. I wanted to get some opinions as to whether this substitution would work. The Pastello is cotton/microfiber and the Mega is 65wool/35acrylic.

So, does this sound like a good substitution, since the gauge on the label is the same? Or should I be going by the gauge stated in the pattern? Thanks for your help,

melissa

If the yarn for the pattern has the same gauge as the substitution, then it should work fine. You’ll still need to swatch to see how the new one knits up, of course, but you should be able to get the gauge of the pattern without a problem.

Thanks Ingrid! I thought that sounded right, but after all my research I think I was just overthinking it a bit and confusing myself!
