I am knitting Little Pixie Coat in Sublime book 606. I am making the 6-12 month size using usa sz 6 needles and Sublime’s Soya Cotton dk. All was going great until I came to the hood. I have a few problems with their hood directions which appear on page 18 of the book.
I am clear until you get to the fourth set of directions which begin with Next row(this would be the second group of directions that begin with next row). It begins, “Inc in 1 st st (front edge) , patt to last 2 sts, patt2tog.”
Are they referring to the front edge of the stitch or the front edge of the hood? If they are referring to the front edge of the hood, is it safe to assume that the front edge is not the shaped edge about which they spoke one paragraph above?
Next the pattern says “Next Row. Patt to end.” I understand this. It is straight forward and not a problem.
It continues, “Work 10 rows in patt inc 1 st st at front edge in 3rd and following 4th row AT SAME TIME dec 1 st at shaped edge in 3rd and following 4th row. You will now have 32[36:40:42] sts on the needle.” Does this mean work ten rows in pattern, on the 3rd and 4th row of this 10 row group, you inc 1 stitch on the ‘front edge’ or the begining of the row and dec. 1 stitch at the end of the row? Would Rows 5-10 then be worked in pattern? Or would you repeat the inc/dec sequence on the 7th and 8th rows of the 10 row group?
Finally it says, “Work 4 rows in patt inc 1 st at front edge in 1st and following alternate row AT SAME TIME dec 1 st at shaped edge in 1st row. You will now have 33[37:41:43]sts on the needle. Work 9 rows in patt inc 1 st at front edge in 1st and every following alternate row AT SAME TIME dec 1 st at shaped edge in 1st and every following alternate row. You will now have 33[37:41:43] sts on the needle. ”
Does this mean work the next 4 rows. On row 1 and row 3 of the group you inc/dec at beg and end of these rows? Then the next 9 rows, you inc/dec at beg and end of odd rows i.e (1, 3, 5, 7 and 9)?
I may be over thinking this but just can’t picture what I am doing and am reluctant to continue until I understant what they mean. I would appreciate any feedback or any input. Has anyone else had this problem or is it just me? Thanks mlkathome.
