I got rid of fruit flies with a small amount of white wine vinegar, a little water and dish soap.
It is funny…after cutting a load of pears, we had them trailing into the house (fruit flies) through the garage.
My DF came to me the next weekend and says “I went on the internet, I know how long they live” (about 30 days) and I said “I’ll go you one better…I found a way to kill them!”
It seems as though the wine and wine vinegar is interchangeable…but by the end of a weekend, we had gotten a good 20 or so.
Yes drains!!! I found out “fruit flys” aren’t necessarily from “fruit”… when I saw a few hovering around my sink drain. I looked on line and found that they like moist areas…So, the “bleach thing” didn’t work for me, so I use a little Soft Scrub down the drain with some hot hot water…Crossed Fingers so far, got rid of those little peckers!!!:teehee:
take a jar and fill it about 1/3 of the way with apple cider vinegar (to the flies, this smells like rotting food). Add 2-3 drops of dish soap (to break surface tension) and cover with plastic wrap. Punch holes in the top. The flies go in thinking it’s rotting food, get stuck and drown.
This works WONDERS
also, try checking under your appliances and down the sides…
After catching hundreds of flies on fly tape I took people’s advice and poured bleach and boiling water down the drain. I also later used baking soda and boiling water. So far no more flies (knock on wood) :cheering:
