Stupid newbie question

Forgive me in advance for this silly newbie question… but when you make a slipknot to start crocheting a chain, does the loop on the hook count as the first chain? For instance, if the instructions read “chain 10,” I make the slip knot on the hook and then chain 9 more?

No, it does not count as the first chain.

The chain on the hook is never counted as a stitch. Good Luck!!

Slip knot does NOT count as a stitch. Also, there are NO Stupid Questions!!! Good luck on your project.
