Stumped with my seam

Need a little help please…
I’m almost done my sweater, and the last part will be the seaming of the edges…however, I’m a little confused. It’s telling me to fold the edges along turning rounds (simple enough) and slipstitch in place.
My question…how does one slipstitch? I can’t seem to find anything other than the crochet term. I’m semi-baffled. It’s all stockinette, and then the turning round was purled, so I’m turning two sets of purl bumps together.

Please help! I’m so excited to finish my first sweater!! :happydance:

It sounds as if the instructions mean that you fold the edges at the turning ridge like a hem and tack it down. Then after that you actually seam it. I think.

But then how I do seam it?

Use a tapestry needle and yarn and sew it, just skimming the back of the body of the sweater and making sure you don’t pull too tight.

that’s what i figured, but i wanted to be sure. just looping around the purl loops should do the trick right? well why didn’t they just write that!!

I think the main thing to watch for for hems is that the stiff edge of the hem doesn’t pull in on the body of the sweater. In one of EZ’s books she talks alot about hems and recommends leaving the stitches live to avoid this. Too late now, huh!

Just do it loosely and keep stretching it out.

thank you for the tips, what would happen if i only caught every couple of stitches? would that make it less likely to snug up?

yes, too late now…that’s what first sweaters are for!!

That’s probably a good idea–just enough to hold it up evenly.

Thanks much!! I’m hoping by Monday it will be finished, and as long as it doesn’t look ridiculous, I’ll post a pic!

Here we go…it’s a sewing term too:
