I need help with a lacy pattern- here goes
Patt:
CO 39
P one row
1st row: p3,k1,*k3tog,k1,(yf,k1tbl)3times,yf,k1,(skpo)twice,k4;rep from to last 3sts , p3
2nd and every WS row: p to end
3rd row: p3,k1skpo,K2,yf,k3,yf,k1tbl,yf,(skpo)twice, k3; rep from * to last 3sts ,p3
5th row: p3,k1,*skpo,k1,yf, k5,yf,k1tbl,yf,k1,(skpo)twice,k2; rep frm *to last 3sts , p3
My problem is that on row 3 i end up with too many stitches. I know i am reading the pattern wrong but not sure where! When it says yf,k3 does it mean that you are increasing? Is that my prob?
The pattern is a free one from deramores- lacy scarf in Debbie Bliss Rialto lace . This is my first attempt at lace knitting so i need help!
Yes, yf, k3 does give an increase. However, there are 3 yf’s and 3 skpo’s in each pattern repeat, so that isn’t the problem. Row 3 only gives instructions for 37 stitches: p3,k1 (4 stitiches), *skpo, … k2; rep from * (15 stitches, repeast once more for sub total of 30 stitches), P3 (3 stitiches) 4 + 30 + 3 = 37. I wonder if the “*skpo, k2 ,…” should be k3?
P3,k1,*skpo,K2,yf,k3,yf,k1tbl,yf,k1,(skpo) twice,k3; rep frm * to last 3, p3
Thanks for your help, i understand the yf inc now but there seems,to be 5 yf increases ( yf k3, yf k1tbl, yf k1) and only 3 dec per repeat. Am i missing something- bet its dead obvious!
Row 3 is short by 2 sts. I only see 15sts in the repeat with 7sts outside the repeat.
In row 2 there are 3 increases and 3 decreases (the skpo: slip 1, knit 1 pass slipped stitch over).
P3,k1,*skpo,K2,yf,k3,yf,k1tbl,yf,k1,(skpo) twice,k3; rep frm * to last 3, p3
So, on yfwd k3 do i only yfwd into one stitch then knit 2normally? I was yfd 3times,cos it said k3 . Possibly the cause of ending up with too many stitches ?
Yes, you only do a yfwd once before knitting 3 stitiches, not a yfwd before each knit stitich. I though this was the case, but my computer threw a strop and wouldn’t let me reply. So I had dinner and let it calm down.
Exactly, the yarn forward occurs between sts. It’s just a yarn forward and then over the needle to the back. Then knit the next 3 sts. A yarn forward doesn’t use up a stitch and it doesn’t use a k1 afterwards as part of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHGYU8xv1LU.
