Starded to knit recently and have trouble with reading my pattern
This is a jacket for babies by Sirdar and i chose the 6-12 months size out of the 6 sizes available and has the following instructions
6th Row. P11 [3:2:7:2:4], p2tog, (p8 [5:6:8:5:5], p2tog) 1 [5:5:3: 7:7] times, p11 [2:2:7:1:3].
32 [36:40:42:46:50] sts. Change to 51β2mm needles and proceed as follows:-
1st Row. Knit.
2nd Row. Purl.
These 2 rows will now be referred to as st-st (stocking stitch).
Working in st-st (throughout) cont until back measures
12 [15:18:23:26:31]cm,
(43β4 [6:7:9:101β4:12]in), ending with a ws row.
Can you please expain the brackets and parentheses
Thank you!
Welcome to the forum!
The brackets are used to mark off stitches or measurements for the various sizes. The parentheses mark a group of sts to be repeated.
Iβm not sure which is the 6-12 month size but letβs say itβs the 2nd size:
6th Row. P3, p2tog, (p5, p2tog) 5 times, p2. 36 sts total on the needle at the end of the row.
. Change to 51β2mm needles and proceed as follows:-
1st Row. Knit.
2nd Row. Purl.
These 2 rows will now be referred to as st-st (stocking stitch).
Working in st-st (throughout) cont until back measures
15 cm (6 in), ending with a ws row.
On the 6th row, repeat the p5, p2tog 5 times across the row (p5, p2tog, p5, p2tog and so on).
Circle the number in your pattern that refers to your size to make it easier to follow while knitting.
