Welcome to the forum!
Sometimes this kind of direction occurs when the stitch pattern changes from rib to the body of the item, often a sweater.
You can really do either k2tog or p2tog. If the body is knit in stockinette and you’re knitting a RS (right side) row, you might make the decrease as k2tog to match the knit side of stockinette. That would mean working a p2tog if you’re on a WS (wrong side) row. That’s one way to work these decreases.
What are you knitting? From your picture, it looks like you have already worked one row of K1P1 ribbing. Does the pattern continue ribbing? If so, these decreases will throw the ribbing pattern off.
Is it possible that your instruction was for the first row of the ribbing section?
Sometimes pattern sections have a heading which can be confusing. E.g. I’ve seen patterns saying work 1x1 ribbing and then go on to give the details of how to do that, starting with a set up row!!
Your piece of knitting looks short so I guess that it’s not a garment?
Hi this is the ribbed bottom of front of jumper!i am on row 12 .3rd size across 17081999778192537546477679771487|899x1200
So this is the part of the sweater where the ribbing changes to stockinette stitch (st-st). You can work the decreases as p2tog on the WS row. They will blend in with the first RS row of the st-st, a knit row.
Great colours on the yarn! Is this self striping? What yarn is it please?
Ah sorry, I misread your picture! I thought it was going from stockinette to ribbing! Clearly too many gins!!
