Stuck on a pattern

Hi

I was wondering if anyone can help explain this part of a pattern for me? I am stuck and I am making a stuffed monkey.
The pattern for this part of the head doesn’t seem very clear to me.

For the head
Beg at lower edge using the thumb method and A, cast on 9 sts.
First and next 4 foll alt rows: P.
Inc row: (Inc) to end (18 sts).
Inc row: (K1, inc) to end (27 sts).
Inc row: (K2, inc) to end (36 sts).
Inc row: (K3, inc) to end (45 sts).
Inc row: (K4, inc) to end (54 sts).
Beg with a p row, stocking-st 17 rows.

I understand to start with 9 stitches and the first and then following alternate 4 rows pearl. I am stuck with the increase rows.
Can anyone explain it in easier terms?

Hi and welcome!

Inc row: (Inc) to end (18 sts).
For this increase row, the easiest thing is to knit front and back (kfb) in each stitch. The knit front and backm kfb is shown on the Glossary tab at the top of the page.

Inc row: (K1, inc) to end (27 sts).
For this row, k1 then kfb in the next stitch and repeat k1, kfb to the end.

Inc row: (K2, inc) to end (36 sts).
Knit 2 sts, then kfb in the next stitch and repeat k2, kfb to the end.

Inc row: (K3, inc) to end (45 sts)
And again here, knit 3, kfb in the next stitch and repeat k3 kfb to the end.

Inc row: (K4, inc) to end (54 sts).
And, you’ve got it, knit 4, kfb repeat to the end.
Beg with a p row, stocking-st 17 rows.
