Stuck on a pattern

Hi, I hope someone can help. I’m knitting a jumper, the pattern is classed as easy, but Ive just started on the raglan sleeves, and I really don’t understand the pattern. I understand the stitching, but not which row to knit. I tried to write it out but don’t know whether I’m doing the row with P3tog, or P2tog. And the row with the " dec 1st at each end " is that on the knit rows or purl rows? If any one can help I’d be very grateful. Im normally go into my local wool shop but they are closed with the lockdown.

Extract from pattern here.

Many Thanks.

Debbie.

Welcome to KH!

You’re going to be working the P3tog decrease rows for most of the rows until the very end of these instructions.
Call the very first row at the top of the column that you posted, Row 1 (a RS decrease row). Row 2 is knit (a WS row).
Work the P3tog decrease row on RS rows 3,5,7,9,11,13 etc until you get to 48sts. The alternate WS rows are knit.
When you get to 48sts at the end of a RS row, work a WS knit row, a P2tog RS row (the no decrease row) and another WS knit row. You’ll end with the RS facing for the next row.

Thank You! It seems so easy when someone explains it to you. Debbie.

Hi, one more query - what does the “dec 1st at end of each…” refer to?

Your answer makes sense but I can’t see how the above fits in.

Thanks debbie

The “dec 1 st at each end of the next row and then on 27 foll alt rows” refers to the P3tog rows. They have an increase for the eyelet (the yrn, yarn round the needle) and a decrease of 2sts (the P3tog). That gives you a decrease of one stitch at each end.

You start these directions with 104sts and decrease 2 x 28 = 56 sts decreased. 104-56=48sts remaining.

Ahh… it makes sense now (I think)

If it’s still a problem as you work these decreases, come back and ask again. The directions could have been written more simply.
Work the P3tog row every RS row until you get to 48sts, then work the P2tog row on the RS row in the last 3 rows.

What is the name of the pattern?

Hi. It’s a rowan pattern. I bought a booklet, and got totally stuck on another in the booklet. I even contacted the company, but they weren’t that helpful as they are not allowed to “rewrite" it. I agree they do seem to make it over complicated.
