Stuck knitting One-Button Cardigan

Hello knitting forum! I am a beginner/intermediate knitter. I’m following the One-Button Cardigan (Moss Stitch) pattern from Classic Elite Knits:

After starting the decrease row, the moss stitch begins to turn into a ridge of some sort, and instead of a 2+1 pattern it’s just a 2 pattern. Am I missing something in the math? Here is a picture of the left-front panel of my sweater so far:

Thanks for any advice you can give,

Moss stitch creates such a lovely knit fabric. This is going o be very pretty.
The easiest thing to do after the bind off is to look at the row below. the last row worked, and let that guide your next stitch. If it’s a row 2 of the moss pattern, work the same stitch as the row below (knit the knits and purl the purls). If it’s a row 1 of moss pattern, work the opposite stitch (knit the purls and purl the knits).

Thank you so very much for your reply and advise. I will definitely give this a try this evening.
