Struggling Over Sweater Neck Edge

Okay, this is my very first (EVER) post! I have been enjoying reading all of the other posts and usually understand the information I need to solve a problem. This time however, I’m still confused.

I am working on my sweater neck edge and have the following instruction:

Shape Neck: Next Row (RS): K27, join another hank of yarn and bid off cenr 9 sts, k to end. (I understand this instruction)…
Working both sides at once, bind off 2 sts at each neck edge 9 times, end on WS.

I did this and have “holes” on the neck edge

I have read posts on this subject and now understand that the bo at each neck edge is actually going to take place over 18 rows, not 9 - correct?

The next question is what will be my best way to frog those last 9 rows with 2 bound off stitches on each row - I have never recovered a bo stitch.

thank you SOOOOO much for any help you can provide:knitting:

Waiting to see other posts, but i would have read that line the same way you did, binding off 2 sts at the next 9 rows. so 9 rows of binding off. not 18. i could be way crazy though. :zombie:

To undo a BO st, just lift it up back onto the needle and undo like a regular one. Yes the BO at the neck edges will be over 18 rows. To cover up the holes you can do a row of single crochet around the neckline, or pick up sts and then bind them off.

Thank you for the replies. I will attempt the frogging of the BO and start over and BO over 18 rows. 2 Stitches at the neckline on knit side and 2 stitches on the neckline on the pearl side, 9 times. Wish me luck!

Just another little tip I read somewhere once, when you are binding off at a neck edge or shoulder edge on successive rows, it helps to slip the first stitch instead of knitting it and then proceed to do your bind off. It gives a smoother curve.
In other words, at the beginning of the row, you would slip one stitch, knit one stitch and pass over.
