Anyone know how it is possible on a 4x4" tension square to have 18stitches & 24 rows with one DK yarn, and 18 stitches & 26 rows with another DK yarn. How is it the no of stitches don’t change (18) but the number or rows does? (24 with one of them, 26 with the other?) Surely both width and length should change together, not just the length??
It does seem odd but all DKs (or any yarns within a class) aren’t the same. Maybe there are differences in stitch gauge that are much smaller and don’t show up over 4 inches?
Are you knitting a larger than 4"x4" swatch and measuring over the center 4"? That’s the most accurate way.

ooo noo even larger swatches ? ![]()
I guess its the only way
… I didn’t think it wd matter as many patterns are measured by length, so just carry on til length is right, but for an intarsia sweater it mattered a lot as the picture pattern part was quite large & had to be followed, not measured by length, then it threw everything else out !
Thanks Salmonac…
