Storing your stash

I hope this hasn’t been asked before. My stash is starting to grow! :shock: Imagine that!!! :roflhard:

How do you store yours?

I have a really cool trunk I got from Hobby Lobby, and I also have this little wire cube system that I use as shelving and display yarn in. :shock: too much yarn.

Two baskets, a small bookcase, and a giant tub in the closet.

lets see…I have a three drawer rubbermaidish plasticky roll around thingy, a container under the bed, 2 duffel bags, and a few walmart bags that are full of yarn. :smiley:

I have mine in several locations around the house, partially to make the amount less obvious to the husband, and partially because our house is full of clutter and it is hard to find a big enough space to set up a proper storeage area/workstation for knitting.

I have some in knitting stands and bags, some in platic bags, more in big plastic tubs/bins with lids. It really needs to be organised better but it is hard to know where to start when your DH & offspring are such hoarders and don’t leave you space for your stuff. And not having much “me” time I prefer to spend it knitting, reading or gardening etc rather than more organising stuff in the house.

Some kind of cabinet which has places for accessories, yarn and knitting books would be wonderful. :XX:

Let’s see…

At school, I don’t have many clothes, so the bottom drawer of my dresser is filled with yarn, plus I have some on the shelf in my closet and then stuff I’m working on is in a desk drawer. When I’m home, it’s mostly in a pile on the floor, covered in a blanket so the cats can’t get to it.

Fortunately, my stash is not too overwhelming. I have a few bags and baskets of yarn, but I’ve certainly kept it under control.

I have a lot, in bins and large nylon laundry bags, but the yarn I’m using and plan to use soon, and the yarn I like to fantasize about is kept in those pop up mesh hampers. I can see what’s in them, they’re portable so I can move them around to get at the ones behind and under them (I said I have a lot–without much space). They were inexpensive, too.

Thanks, everyone. Those are some good ideas. Right now, mine is in plastic bags and a few are in those plastic rubbermaid containers.

I have some of those wire basket drawer thingies for my sewing (which I’m not doing much of anymore) so I may have to re-organize and get one of those out for the yarn!!

I have a three door pull out clear rubbermaid thingy… and 2 boxes in the closet full of yarn :smiley:

Although I just started knitting last fall, my stash is already exceeding the time I have to knit. Currently I am using a very large picnic basket with hinged lid for the stash. Current project yarn (a sweater) is in one of those plastic zip pouches that sheets come in. I have to keep everything well closed as I have a very curious and destructive cat.

My stash isn’t very large. I store most of my yarn in one of those 18 gallon rubbermaid tubs (can’t get the lid to close), and my wip’s and yarn for them are kept in a rolling knitting tote bag that was a christmas gift from a friend.

I use these and I love them. I can see where things are and it is off the floor. You do have to keep them in closets with doors shut though, because there isn’t anything to keep the dust off.

I have more stash than the WM I work at does! :roflhard: about 90% of my stash was bought/obtained before learning how to knit. I have at least a dozen of the LARGE rubbermaid bins that are labelled with the type of yarn or thread in them. I have over a dozen of the smaller ones for my smaller balls of thread and for WIPs/UFOs. These all stack together {relatively} neatly, and having labels on them makes it easier when I’m looking for something in particular. I also have several large garbage bags of yarn… 2 have the pounders of RH Comfort I pick up at work, 2 more have a bunch of small balls of Eaton’s sayelle I got at a garage sale 2 years ago. I also have 2 tubs with a hole in the top of the lid that I use for current projects by my computer, and a rolling drawer thingy with three drawers… bottom drawer has leftover yarn balled up, middle has sock yarn, top has my “finishing” tools.

I’ve got tons more elsewhere in the house, but I don’t have enough bins for it all, and it’s too cold to go into my yarn cryogenics testing lab/craft room right now and organize it better. It’s actually our front porch {closed in}, but it’s not insulated, so I spend about a month every spring “fixing” the damage I did over the winter with quick dash and dumps!

I keep mine in wicker baskets…plus some are in cardboard boxes and some just out in the open because I like seeing them. I too need to organize much better!!

I’ll be getting a craft/sewing room soon and I plan to store mine in a new bookcase and then I’ll be able to SEE them all by color. Thats my plan anyway. :XX:

I ended up using one of the wire basket systems that I already owned to store the yarn. I got rid of some fabric that I had and moved it out of the closet!!! It works great!!!
