Stocking Heel Help

Hi Friends,

Can anyone help me understand these directions? I’m knitting a Christmas stocking and am working on the heel. I just finished a section of the pattern called “Making the Heel Flap” and am trying to figure out “Turning the Heel.”

I’ve been working 29 stitches back and forth to make the flap. Now it says:

“K19, K2tog, K1. Turn. You now have 28 stitches.”

By my math 19 + 1 (two become one) +1 = 21, not 28. What happens to the other stitches that are still on my left needle? If it helps, the next row is:

“Slip 1, P10, P2tog, P1. Turn.” Again, that doesn’t seem like it adds up to enough stitches.

You have 28 stitches TOTAL it would seem, as you only k2tog

You’ll work those stitches eventually…

If all appears to well in regards to the number of sts you had before you started the flap… Than I’d just keep on keepin on :stuck_out_tongue:

You’ll be working short rows to shape the heel. The remaining stitches don’t get worked immediately. As you turn and work back and forth you will add 2 more stitches back in each row until you have worked all stitches. You then will pick up stitches down the side of the heel flap to start the gussets. Trust the pattern.
