I am knitting a cardigan sweater. The front right and left sides call for mostly Stockinette and 7 sts of Garter right before reaching the center on both sides. I know that they will not come out even because the Garter sts looks tighter. The sweater is very long …a coat sweater. Yarn is 100% wool. My question is will the fronts block even…in other words can I stretch the Garter sts to match the Stockinette when blocking.
Usually garter st has no problem stretching when used as an edge. You could cut the number of sts down to 5 or 6 unless that’s going to mess with buttonholes. Also, you could knit the garter sts a little looser.
Thanks so much for the information…I did think of knitting the garter sts looser and have been trying to do that in hopes that it would help…didn’t know if it would or not. Yes, have buttonholes! Now I can proceed and hopefully have a good outcome!
You are always so good to help and I want you to know that I really appreciate all the help you have given me…
I do short rows or the front edges are shorter because of the difference in the stitch sizes. Artlady has a tutorial here about it if you’re interested:
Jan …Thank you so much for the tutorial that Artlady posted (I saved it to look at later). I was hoping that I would not have to do the short rows not because I am lazy but I did try them and I always got a hole…so maybe doing them wrong. This is a simple pattern and I have had nothing but trouble with it. I hate to feel defeated but it is so frustrating to me right now that is is probably time to put it aside and do something else.
Thank you also MerigoldinWA. It won’t beat me…just think I need time away!
