Stitches West 2006 quick review

Robin, Kath, and I spent about 5 hours at the Stitches West market (Santa Clara Convention Center) yesterday. I’ll put my haul pics and details in my blog thread.

we noticed a trend of beaded shawls/scarves, and colored plastic rose petal pieces sewn or threaded on to pieces.

I didn’t write down the name, but there was a certain light worsted or DK weight (I think) solid colored yarn with an iridescent seed bead every 6" or so placed on ONE of the plies. very beautiful.

there seemed to be more button and bead vendors this year.

Eva Wiechmann wasn’t there at the time but I got to look at Pursenality Plus: 20 New Felted Bags and the bags that were made and photographed for the book.

Another new book that a lot of vendors had is One Skein: 30 Quick Project to Knit and Crochet. it’s been on my Amazon wish list for a bit. I should have bought it yesterday.

I might sign up for Yarn of the Month. it’s $7.75/mo. you get 1 pattern and 4 yarn samples per month of assorted (natural, novelty, anything) yarns, each big enough to make a 4"x4" square.

we got to test the lighted needles, size 11. they were a lot lighter (hehe) than I thought.

we also got to test square needles. those would take me some getting used to.

looked at the namaste glass needles. gorgeous.

and as always, we drooled over the Jordana Paige bags and needle cases.

it was fun, though a bit overwhelming by the time we walked the 4th aisle or so. we stopped a lot of customers and attendees to ask about their gorgeous scarves or shawls or wraps and stuff, and every single one of them was really nice.

Sounds like a lovely way to spend the afternoon. I belong to the Yarn of the Month club. I thought it would quell my thirst for sending away for yarn. I still send away for way too much yarn and now have a drawer full of little baggies of yarn. It’s fun getting it, though, and some of the articles they send with it are interesting.

I am curious about the square needles you mentioned.
Is there any advantage to them?
(read - what the heck do ya need em square fer???) :roflhard:

Square stitches?

:roflhard: I have no idea. they’re just gimmicky and cute.
