Stitches are too loose

I’m so excited to find this forum.

I took my first knitting class yesterday and I LOVE IT!!

Here’s my question. I’m practicing everything that I learned and everything looks great…UNTIL I try to do ribbing.

All of my stitches are super loose and sloppy looking, despite the fact that I make sure to pull the yarn, especially the first 3 or 4 stitches. What am I doing wrong?

TIA,

Just as a beside - are you keeping the same number of stitched from row to row? When I first started ribbing I was increasing my stitches (by accident) and the extra stitches seemed really loose.

Other than that take it slow and check after knitting / pearling every stitch (when it’s on the right needle) that it’s the right tension

I haven’t been increasing (I’m using markers to help me keep count).

My stockinette stitch looks finr, it’s just the ribbing that looks sloppy :frowning:

Thanks anyway.

Have you tried using a smaller needle with the yarn you’re using?

No…that’s a good idea. I’ll give it a shot.
