hello i just started knitting and was wondering if anybody could tell me what kind of stitch i could do to get what looks kind of like braids like on the front of the stockinett stitch instead of dashes because thats what my work looks like. when i strech the piece out the dashes look like the braids but only then. i want it to look like that on both sides HELP!!! i hope this doesnt sound like a weird question like everybody knows it :knitting:
I think you’re taking about ‘Vs and bumps’. The back of a knit st (the V) is a purl st (the bumps). When you knit every row you see mostly the purl bumps unless you stretch it. To get stockinette you need to alternate a knit row with a purl row, that way all the Vs will be on one side and all the bumps on the other side.
