Can someone please explain to me what the author means here? I’m a bit new to knitting. I’ve never knitted any sort of clothing and I’m attempting a sweater for the first time. Here is the pattern, but I don’t understand what it means.

With MC & larger needles, CO 121 sts. ( got this part )
?Set-up row?: K3, p1, *k5, p1; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3. Work in k5, p1 rib as set for 18". At the same time, work 10" in MC, end with a WS row, then work color pattern.
With MC, work 1 row even.
I get the stitch pattern, but I don’t understand the set-up row reference and how I’m supposed to be stitching the other deal at the same time.
The first row sets your pattern in motion. You’re doing a K5 P1 rib. For the next 18" you’re going to be knitting the knits and purling the purls. BUT - when you reach 10" - you’re changing yarn. Does that help?
Yes. I think that does make sense. The color pattern is: Work 1" in B, end with a WS row. Work 6" in A, end with a WS row. Work 1" in B, end with a WS row. That would complete the 18". So, the set-up row is just the way to refer to the beginning of the pattern. Thank you very much.
