Hi, forgive the incredibly wet newbie but what do you do with the yarn (and ball) attached to the “back” of my raglan sweater after I’ve put the neckline on stitch holders? I now need to create the front and sleeves and I understand that I need to transfer the stitches but what about the yarn that’s still attached. :shrug:
Sorry, I searched the web and many messages here but didn’t find a simple answer.

Your pattern should tell you why you need to have the ball of yarn still connected - I’m guessing that it will be for the neckline, (picking up stitches around and doing ribbing, for example).
For the rest of the sweater you will need to use another ball of yarn.
You probably don’t need to keep that yarn connected at all. You can cut it, leaving a tail, and use the yarn for the rest of the sweater.

The pattern doesn’t say what to do. It’s a freebie pattern from Bernat. The last sentence of the “back” says, “Leave rem sts on a st holder”. Then the next thing is “Front”. So do I cut the yarn? Tie it off somehow? Leave the ball attached?
If I knit the sleeves and front and end up with them all on a st holder I’ll have 4 balls at the top and not sure what to do with them all?

Once you’re done with a piece, cut the yarn and leave a tail to weave in later. When all the pieces are done, you’ll most likely need to pick up and knit around the neck and you’ll start a ball for that. There’s no reason to leave balls attached to each piece. You need that yarn for the rest of the sweater! :teehee:
