Pattern says All Sizes:Leave rem sts on a st holder. Neckband:With smaller needles cast on 4 sts for left shoulder. With RS of work facing, K37 from front st holder. Cast on 3 sts for right shoulder. K37 from back st holder. 81 sts. Work in stocking st for 2 ins ending with a purl row. Cast off loosely. Sew neckband and side seams.

Now the question, Do i tie off the yarn on the first stitch holder? I dont understand what they mean. thanx for the help.

You don’t have to, you could cast on the 4 sts at the end of the round where the yarn is attached to one set of 37sts on the holder. Or you can cut it, leaving a 6" tail and CO the 4 sts with the new yarn end.
