I have bought and started the pattern for Sea Lettuce Scarf by Lucy Neatby and have already ripped it out three times. If you are familiar with this scarf, it begins with a provisional cast on so you can later have live stitches and the rows end in picot with a modified conventional bind off which I do NOT get! I am fairly good at reading directions, but the explanation given is just not gelling with me and the ends do not look right. Has anyone tried this scarf who could offer me some assistance? Does anyone know how to do the modified conventional bind off for the picot, in general? I would greatly appreciate the help!
Not many will have the pattern, so if you can give the directions for the bind off, some may be able to help.
Thanks, Suzeeq, I will give some of the instructions. Because it is a purchased pattern, I cannot share all of it due to copyright infringement. Here is what leads up to the picot:
Wedge Row 4: Ybn, k8. (10 sts on needle)
Wedge Row 5: CO/BO 3 sts., k6 more (7 sts on right hand needle)
Wedge Row 6: Ybn, k7.
Am I knitting the CO/BO? I can’t tell in my work if it’s knit or purl, so can anyone tell from Row 4 on? When I CO, I CO by knitting on. When I BO the SAME three sts I just CO, am I BO in knit or purl? Does it appear that I am knitting everything? I can’t print the whole section of pattern because it’s copyrighted.
Yes, use a knit CO and BO knitwise. The pictures look like it’s all knits - garter stitch.
Thank you SO much!
:woot:
I’m just starting this scarf and don’t understand this part:
Knit up 10 more sts across the CAST-ON EDGE (20 sts)
What cast on edge? I’ve asked the help of an experienced knitter and she doesn’t know what they are talking about.
Knit up is the same as ‘pick up sts knitwise’. The cast on edge is where you start, then knit some rows. At whatever point this instruction appears, you would leave your sts on the needle and pick up 10 more sts in the cast on and you’ll have 20 sts.
