Starting my first blanket!

Hi there KHers!

I’m so excited, I’m starting my first blanket/ throw! It will be a welcome home a gift for my best friend who is studying abroad in the middle east. She’ll be there another year nearly, so I’ve got plenty of time.

I’m going to use this pattern: http://www.berroco.com/exclusives/sybellia_throw/sybellia_throw.html

And I’m thinking of doing it in Caron Simply Soft yarn? In part because it would be so expensive to do it in something luxurious from my LYS. (I’ll need about 3500 yards-- a LOT of yarn, i know) But I’m open to suggestions for other yarn? Or if you think that Simply Soft is a good choice for such a project? And if you think I should bite the bullet and go for a better, non-acrylic year, which one?

Thanks!

Try Swish Superwash from KnitPicks. It’s a reasonably priced, machine washable, very soft merino.

I love Caron Simply Soft. It works up into a very nice knit, and is so easy to care for. I use it for a lot of the blankets I make. That pattern is gorgeous

Caron SS is one of the better budget yarns, although it tends to split easily.
