Starta new ball of yarn without joining it to something?

I am doing a pattern where it says to divide the work (on circ needles) then start on straight needles with a new ball of yarn. How do I start the new ball? I was thinking just leave a tail and start putting it in, but it is at the beginning of a row so I am not sure if that will work. It is the honeymoon cami in the free pattern section of this site.

That’s generally what I do. Just start knitting and then weave the end in later. If it won’t show, you could knit the tail in with the yarn on the second stitch to hold it, but if it will be obvious, then don’t.
