start of pattern difficulty

I am starting pattern and am confused because it says:

“Start from a foundation dc row, crochet 25 dc or chain foundation row”

Can anyone help me interpret this instruction?

Thank you.

What is the name of your pattern?

Maybe @Snowfleas or @OffJumpsJack can help.

The name of the pattern is crochet basic crop tank top free pattern by beautiful crochet stuff

A foundation row is worked in your starting chain.

  • (US) Chain 28, DC in 4th chain from hook.
    or
  • (UK) Chain 26, DC in 2nd chain from hook.

Foundation row:
DC in each chain. (25 sts).

[Edit found a video for the crop top]
Above is a standard foundation row in a chain.

This video for the crop top uses a technique to extend a chain as you work your DC row (US term)

This is called a chainless foundation.

And a tutorial video:

My laptop died and I just got a new one this week. I am so glad that I am not the only one able to give crochet advice here. OffJumpsJack did a great job.

Thanks, Snowfleas. Sorry to hear about the laptop. They do seem to pick the worst moment to go.

Thank you, Snowfleas.
