I am starting on the Starsky Jr from knitty. my question is on the back part of the pattern is says:

[INDENT][I]Next Row [/I][RS]: K5[11, 15], work 21-st repeat of Banana Tree Pattern 3 times, k2 [8, 12].[/INDENT]

[INDENT][I]Next Row[/I] [WS]: P2[8, 12], work 63 sts in Banana Tree Pattern as set, p5[11, 15].[/INDENT]

[INDENT]Continue in patt as set until work measures 9.5[12, 13] inches, ending with a WS row. [/INDENT]

Each row of this Banana Tree Pattern has 21st so doe sthat mean you only knit 1 of the pattern rows and then 3 of the pattern rows??? :doh:

Not quite.

On the first row, knit the first set of sts (5, 11, 15) then the 21 sts of the pattern, knit the 21 sts of pattern again, then do a 3rd set of the pattern sts, and end the row with knitting what’s left over.

The next row purl those leftover sts, then all 63 sts of the st pattern for the 2nd row (21x3 = 63) and then purl the end sts.

After that, just follow the stitch pattern along with however many edge sts for your size.

Thanks Sue. I guess I am confused because the BL pattern is x number of rows long … do I do pattern row 1 on the first row and pattern row 2 on the next and so on …

That’s right. You follow the pattern rows all the way across on R 1, 2, 3, 4, etc, all the way to 21. You repeat the 21 pattern sts 3 times on each row.
