St st question

My pattern reads as follows:
Row 19: Work in Stockinette stitch {(St st) knit one row, purl one row} for 16 rows.

My question, is one knit row AND one purl row considered ONE row of St st? In other words would I be “knittting” 32 rows for 16 rows of St st?

Please help confused new knitter
Thank you

A row is a row. One row of knit, and one row of purl = TWO rows of stockinette stitch.

Hope this helps!

I ALWAYS get confused by this too. but figured that a row is a row.
so it would look like this:
knit 1 row
perl 2 row
knit 3 row
perl 4 row
till you get to the 16th row

but when you read a pattern it sounds soooooo confusing. another confusing thing is if you loose count of the rows but i figured out (i think it mostly works anyway)that if you count the purls and double them you can get a aproximate count.

You might consider getting yourself a row counter. I know they’ve been a hugely helpful tool for me.

I’m still pretty new at this, and sometimes I get so caught up in counting stitches for a pattern repeat that it’s easy to forget which ROW I’m on.

Good Luck!
