Square pinwheel?

i was wondering how to make a pinwheel into a center out square? is it as simple as only starting w/ 2 stitches?
i’ve used the magic cast on starting with 5st CO to make a pinwheel w/ 10 “spokes” but that finishes off round, i was thinking one w/ 4 (or multiples of 4) “spokes” should come out square. i really do not want to work from the outside in as some other patterns call for

Right, start with a multiple of 4, like 8 sts, and after increasing to 16 sts, you want to do 4 paired increases every other row. Like k4, Dinc, k4, dinc, k4, dinc, k4 dinc. Or k3, yo, k1, yo, k3, yo, k1, yo, etc. Then just continue to inc 8 sts the same way.

you seem to be the only one reading my posts, but your advice is really good. i have so much going on in my head, its hard to sort out w/out a little help!! thanks a bunch again!

Sue is isn’t the only one reading your questions.:yay:
She’s just the one who knows all the answers!

At least you didn’t say I was the only one with the answers…

And I don’t know all of them either.

argh- i can’t get this to work… i understand the reasoning for the dinc, but i want the holes that the yo’s make. if i do it the other way: k3, yo, k1, yo, k3, yo, k1, yo, etc… the spot where the yo, k1, yo is looks all garbled(i think the k1 is throwing it off somehow), and the meaty parts dont look like they’re increasing evenly. - i could be doing it wrong (i most likely am LOL)
i was thinking could i do the yo like a dinc? ex: yo knit thru front, yo
knit thru back of same stitch? it should increase 8st for each round right?
TIA–again!

The spiral look is going to come from it being round, the square look is going to happen with double incs in the `corners. But yes you could do k1, yo, k1 in one stitch. I’m doing this blanket - http://www.knittinguniverse.com/flash/knitters/GalleryDetail.php?IssueNum=91&ID=760
with increases like that one every 4th row; the rows in between have them with double decs to get the shaping.

I don’t know the answer but I sure like to watch :teehee:

I think I’ve finally got it. When it’s large enough to show details, I’ll have to post pics… Thanks again. I should be good until I try to BO!!!

i’m going to try to post a pic…

it took me a while, but i think i did it… WOOT!!!

Yep, I think so. Just keep going and those corners will end up squared off.

it actually wants to square off already, the circular needles are forcing it round. I’m rather excited this turned out as something I really like. I ended up doing the knit thru the front, yo, knit through the back for the corners. Except it kept throwing me off because I had it stuck in my head that I was making 4 sts out of one when it actually was only making three. It took me ALL day to figure out why my counts weren’t coming out right. LOL!!

You’re really only making 2 extra sts out of the 1.

right. And for some goofy reason I kept adding in the st I was making them out of. It’s all good now though and I think I learned a little too!!

Thanks again!!
