Split ring marker question

Hi,
Very new to knitting and have what is probably a silly question but here it is.

The pattern says -
“At this point, place a split ring marker on the left and right edges of work to mark the start of middle section.”

I did a search for split ring markers and got lots of videos on how to use them in the middle of the needle, but not on the edges.

so do I just attach the marker to the yarn on the two sides?

or is there something else I am supposed to do.

thank you for any help.

You don’t have to use a split ring marker, it could pull the yarn; I use safety pins or paper clips, you just need something removeable to put into the stitch itself.

what does your pattern tell you to do after that? sounds like maybe you end up adding stitches on the other side of each marker maybe so that the markers end up indicating the middle of the work? or do you come back to the section later and do something with it that you would need it marked?
just ideas … sometimes I have to read past a given instruction to figure out why the pattern is telling me to do something or for my little brain to get it.

I did read ahead and i still wasn’t sure lol
There is no increase so the markers are definitly at the "ends"
you just continue on until it’s so long .

The markers are there because “This is necessary in order to determine the proper lenght of the chest panel.”

so my guess is that it is just so when I attach the chest panel I know where it goes? so I should just slide the marker right into the stich on the end?

yeah, sounds like you just insert them into the last stitch (which is why they to be split markers or paperclips as the moderator suggested) and maybe it is just to help you line things up later. hopefully at some point it will become obvious you did the right thing.
