Special "Note" instruct. in pattern

Hi everyone,

2 QUESTIONS:I have a stitch pattern book and right before the instructions it says “Note: for slip stitches, always carry yarn on wrong side of work”
QUESTION #1:
I have no idea what that means. That would make sense to me if I had more than one color of yarn. I’m not carrying yarn anywhere.

Here’s the rest of the instructions. I also have questions about Row3 & 4. I will list my question at the end of the pattern instructions.

Row1: (RS) K1 P1, WYIB Slip 1 as if to purl repeat * to * ending with K stitch

Row2: P2 WYIF, Slip1, P1 Repeat * to *

Row3: K1, Slip1, P1 repeat * to * ending with K stitch

Row4:P1 Slip 1, P1 Repeat *to * ending with P stitch
Repeat these 4 rows

My 2nd question:
In rows 3 and 4 it never says “WYIF” OR “WYIB”…

I grabbed my yarn and knitted row 3 with WYIB like Row 1. I knitted row 4 WYIF like row 2 but it definetly didn’t look right. It was way to bulky.

Should I just leave the yarn where ever it is from the stitch before the slip? If the stitch before is a knit should I leave the yarn where it is in the back.

Thank you Thank you!

WYIF=with yarn in front so you would bring the yarn to the front of your work

When it tells you to carry the yarn on the back that just means to have the yarn on the back sicde of your work. I know some books/patterns are not written the best.

For rows 3 and 4, I think you should be leaving the yarn in back on both rows. At least try it out that way and see if it comes out better.

Thank you! …Your right this book is not written the best. It has 550 stitch patterns and half are written very well. I’m so used to the strict knitting lingo and when I get a pattern that isn’t written that way it completely confuses me.

You wouldn’t believe how some of these are written. It’s ridiculous.

Cool…Thanks to you both!!
