Soleado Bag

I just got my kit in the mail from Knitpicks to do the Soleado Bag. See it here: http://www.knitpicks.com/kits/Soleado_Bag_Kit__D40158.html

Kit arrived today. It says to use Intarsia method, which I assume means carrying the colors across the back as I change them. I’ve never done this much color work before. Does anyone out there have any gems of advice for me before I start? I’m looking for tips of any sort. Thanks.

Cute bag. I just watched the video by the designer that is part of that link. I guess it’s worked from the inside out starting with the circle whorl patterned square, when that’s finished you pick up stitches around the outside and work the next section, etc. So, I think you’ll only be using 2 colors at any given time so that should make it a little easier.

I would suggest reading the entire pattern first, then work slowly and methodically. Don’t be nervous. It’s just yarn. Here’s my mantra when trying new things: “What’s the worst that could happen? You frog it and try again.”

Let us know how you make out.

I believe you’re thinking of stranded colorwork (where you carry the color across the back.) Intarsia is usually worked from bobbins and not carried across the back.

Here’s a link that explains it… although someone might have a better place http://sweaterscapes.com/intars.htm

(Edit: Apparently there’s a video under advanced techniques too… I haven’t watched it, but I’m sure it’s as fabulous as all of the other videos)

GrandmaLori, that is a really cool bag! and very ambitious! Best of luck with it. linknit41
