Socks, again

It seems to be all that I’m knitting lately but I just love socks that fit my short fat feet without the heels having relations with my ankles.

Pattern: Almondinestitch pattern using my favourite toe-up faux heel pattern as a base.
Yarn: Regia Design Line Hand-dye effect
Needles: 2.5mm and 3.25mm magic loop 2aat

I have joined the ‘Aussie Sock Knitters’ group on Ravelry and every 2 months they have a theme for a pair of socks. For Sept/Oct the theme is colour work and I finished these last night.
Pattern: Vellamo. I again used the toe-up faux heel pattern as base.
Yarn: Bluebell crepe 5ply (reclaimed from a 1980’s jumper). I overdyed the red yarn with blue food colouring and got a gorgeous mottled burgandy.
Needles: 2.5mm and 3.25mm magic loop 2aat (although I did the stranded colourwork 1aat)

You create amazingly lovely socks! L  ve that blue!

I’m such a boring sox knitter, I never try any of those beautiful pattern stitches. I guess it wouldn’t hurt me, maybe I’ll try something on sox tops but for my preferences the feet will stay stockinette and maybe some rib. I’ll have to use up my self-patterning yarn and get some solid colors for trying patterns.

Gorgeous socks! Both pairs are fun to see. I agree that the blue is divine and the re-dyed yarn came out beautifully. Very nicely done.

Great. I really like the bands of celtic (?) patterns.

I hadn’t ever thought about redying yarn with food colouring and I can’t help but wonder: how does that hold up after you wash it?!

A boring sock knitter? Oh my gosh,:knitting: I can’t even knit them !

don’t give up… took me a long time to get up to speed for socks, but i’m loving making them. and most of the credit for that is because of knittinghelp.com

Hi KnitBeg, you set the dye using acid (I used citric acid) and heat. This is my first dye job but according to everyone hereit should be fine. I’ve worn the socks all day and my feet are still their normal colour and will hand wash them (shock/horror) just to be on the safe side.

I use mostly Bendigo Woollen Mills yarns which are made here in Victoria, Australia and nearly all their lines are solid colours and sometimes I yearn for some variety so this is what got me interested in dyeing.
