Sock help please!

Hi so I started knitting my first pair of socks. This is the pattern that I’m using, but I chose the medium size and not the extra small size, so instead of casting on 40 stitches, I casted on 60. I have also adapted the pattern so it was the size that I wanted (I just wanted the cuff to be a bit shorter).

So I’ve divided the 28 stitches onto 2 needles like it states to do in the “Make heel” section, and I have knitted the 16 stitches off of the first needle and onto the third one, but I’m confused on what to do next. The next set of instructions says that its the wrong side. There shouldn’t be a wrong side if I’m working with dpns, should there? Please help me!

You’re making a heel flap and for a while you won’t be knitting in the round. Shandeh made a video for this or a similar pattern. Look at Heel Flap - Row 1.

After I casted on all of my stitches though, the instructions said to join it in the round.

You cast on, join and work in the round until you get to the heel. You’ll knit back and forth - flat - on the stitches that make the heel flap and rejoin to work in the round farther down in the pattern. The video Iinked to is a tutorial for this exact pattern, she explains how to do the heel.
