Sock Heel Question

Im using Silvers sock tutorial and Ive started on my heel. What Im wondering is the heel part supposed to be this tighter kind of stockinette or am I doing it wrong? Im slipping the slipped stitches purl wise and knitting on rs and purling on wrong. I mean its coming along but its kind of tight. I had to unravel at one point so maybe something happened then? I was justwondering if this part is supposed to be this way. It looks like tight tinier stockinette.

The slip/knit heel will keep it from being baggy–it’s supposed to be tighter since you only knit half the stitches half the time.

And a tighter heel stitch will help the sock to last longer because the heel is usually where it will wear through.

I’m doing Silver’s as well and I noticed the tight stitch in the heel also. It makes sense that it would be so, now that the more experienced sock knitters have answered.

I’m just hoping I don’t make any major errors this time. I don’t have a hook small enough to fix dropped stitches in this tiny set up.

For some reason Ive had the darndest time getting this heel flap knitted. Ive frogged all the way back down several times. I just keep dropping stitches and the like. I do have a tiny crochet hook that Im using to pick them up. I refuse to give up on my sock because I cant get past this point. I just wanted to vent. :??
