I’m taking a knitting class tomorrow called basic socks. I was supposed to knit a swatch & I didn’t. So, I’m trying to do it now, but I’ve never done a swatch before.
Reading past notes I’m thinking I need 4 inch width. Is that correct? What will its height need to be?
To be safe, I would do a 6 x 6 swatch so you have a good middle section to measure. Your tension tends to even out in the middle of the swatch.
You might also want to do about six rows of garter (knit each row) at the top and bottom and three garter stitches on each end. This will help your gauge to lie flat. Do stockinette (alternate knit and purl rows) for the middle portion.
