So I have participated in many of the knitting for charity things that come along. In fact, I do a yearly event at my work where I offer to teach people to knit, and provide yarn, in exchange for having them make something for their first project that I can use for a charity project. This year it is Preemie Blankets for one of the local hospitals. Even through this involvement, I never realized how much joy my little hobby could bring to people.
This past weekend, I went to visit my grandfather in the Veterans Hospital in Long Beach, CA. When we arrived, he had a very bright striped
lap-ghan on his lap. It was just wide enough to cover his legs and went from his waist to his feet. It was crocheted and obvious only to me that it had been a stash buster. But he just LOVED it. He couldn’t get over how nice it was to receive this gift from a stranger. And he and my grandmother just went on and on about all the bright pretty color stripes.
Anyway, it was really nice to see, and it re-inspired me to keep knitting for charity. Even though we don’t often get an opportunity to see the joy it brings people, it is just SO rewarding. Anyway, I just wanted to share this story because I know so many of you participate in projects like these. They really make a difference in peoples lives!
