I am assuming, since I don’t read German that Reine Schur-wolle is wool?
It’s a superfine 3 ply laceweight? , fingering weight? (finer than “baby wool”) .
It’s abeautiful jade green colour, and obviously was cleared out of somebody’s stash. it was six dollars altogether, and i can’t resist a bargain!
Any ideas for a project?
And I put the penny in for scale …
There’s also the same weight in synthetic in another brand in cream … anyone heard of Conchita or Crylor?
Gauge Info: there is probably a little chart on the label, telling you how many stitches and rows per 10 cm. The needle size will be the european - but NOT the british size. I have a table here and can give you the US size if you need it.
10 cm = 3.94 inches.
If you need anything from the label translated, just let me know. Since I live in Germany (and therefore buy german brands) but am learning through this website I’m getting pretty good at figuring out the similarities and differences in german & american wool labels.
Thanks hamburgKnitter: The label also says Fien Cable and the knitting needle suggestion is for a Number Two? (There’s a picturte of needles with a 2 next to them.)
I’m guessing from the look of the label that this stuff was made in the late seventies of early eighties.
I was actually thinking about a vest, longish, in lace, over a steel gray satin lining … which means I’d have to learn about design…
You’re welcome! A european size 2 is a US 0. I don’t know what “Fien Cable” means, though. It must be a proper name or description, because neither word is german! “Fein” means “fine” or “delicate”, but “Fien”…dunno. :??
I would think that “fien cable” is the “name” of the yarn maybe?
You know, like Bernat “Matrix” or “Illusion” or “Disco”.
If it is referring to the “type” of yarn, it might mean a “thin cable yarn”. A cable yarn is a type of yarn that is twisted on itself in a more complex way than the usual twist.
Here is a page about spinning “cable yarn” for hand-spinners. It makes a thick yarn. Your yarn could have been made from threads cabled together like that to make a thin yarn. http://www.spinnyspinny.com/articles/cableyarn.html
