So confused. Binding off neck/shoulders on sweater

Hello Everyone, I’m new here and I am in desperate need of some help. I am working on the Gilda pattern by Rowan (my first every sweater).

I have come to a state of confusion with the neck. It is knitted from the bottom up, I am currently working on the back.

The instructions say:

Shape Shoulders and back neck
Cast off 5 sts at beg of next two rows (82 sts) DONE
Next Row (RS): Cast off 5sts, patt until there are 9 sts on right needle and turn leaving rem sts on a holder. DONE but which are the remaining sts the 9 or the rest?
Here is where I get confused
work each side of neck separately.
Cast off 3 sts at beg of next row. (so the 9 sts row?)
Cast off rem 5 sts. (but isnt that just casting off all 9?)
With RS facing, rejoin yarn to rem sts, cast off center 54 sts dec 12 sts evenly, patt to end. Complete to match first side, reversing shaping.

Any help would be amazing. I’m so pleased i’ve gotten this far and I want to get going on the rest

Welcome to Knitting Help!
You’re going to working on the first shoulder (the right shoulder). The “rem sts” are for the center and the left shoulder. Place them on a holder or leave them on the needle and ignore them for now.

After you bind off 5sts and work until there are 9sts on the right needle, turn and bind off 3sts at the neck edge. Work to the end of the row and turn. Now you’re at the armhole edge and you’ll bind off the rest of the sts.

I think i was thinking about this in a way too complicated way haha! after skyping my mom and your response I think I understand what to do thanks so much!
