So-Called Scarf knitting question

Hi, I’m a newbie…both to this forum and to knitting. I stumbled upon the “My So-Called Scarf” pattern in someone’s sig and knew I had to at least give it a try. I think I’m doing it correctly, but my work doesn’t really look like the stuff in the photo. So I need to confirm directions. When it says : K1, sl 1, K1, psso but before dropping the slipped stitch from the left needle, knit into the back of it…I’m confused about the “knit into the back of it” part. I’m knitting it like a normal knit stitch. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance!!

Katie

If you go here you will find a video on knitting through the back of the loop. It is in the first column…if you scroll down a bit you will see K tbl…that’s the one

Thank you for the quick response and the help! I’ve figured out where I went wrong.

It also helps to think of it as - sl 1, k1, yo, psso both the k1 and yo. Ingrid posted that way of thinking about it and it’s much easier to understand.
