SnB success story

Hey guys–some of you know that I decided to start my own SnB here where I live. I’m just outside of Atlanta–there is a group in Atlanta, North Georgia and South Georgia but nothing for the southmetro area so I started the southside SnB. I first created a yahoo group which now has 9 members–2 of which simply found us by doing a yahoo search. One of the ladies that I found is a knitting instructor in my area and tonight she was going to pass out flyers to all of her students…anyway…

Tonight was our first official SnB “session” and we held it at a new coffee shop that has opened in the area. I had contacted the owner in advance and she said she was happy to have us. She let me move the furniture around and even gave me a free cup of coffee for bringing in my group to her shop. I only had 3 people show up but we had a blast. 2 of the people were crocheters who wanted to learn to knit so I got nothing accomplished–I spent the entire 2 hours teaching them how to cast on and knit. One of the two even got through the purl stitch! We had such a great time and it was so fun to show someone else how to knit! I really hope our group will grow–I think we’re off to a good start.

Just wanted to share my success story (it felt successful whether it really was or not!)!!

Sounds like to me you got LOTS accomplished! You made three new friends!

One of the two people was my mom so I didn’t exactly “meet” her! I kind of felt bad for her b/c she wants to learn to knit but she was getting somewhat frustrated–especially since the other newbie was catching on pretty quick. Mom said she’d practice casting on all week and then next week we’d start over learning the knit stitch. I’m just glad she’s trying.

Send her HERE!!! It took me quite a bit to learn. Thank G O D for this website, otherwise, I’d be nowhere.

I’m going to try to send her here–mom’s not so internet savvy. After I have time to update her quicktime and make sure she doesn’t run across glitches, I’ll show her this site. If she were to come to this site and couldn’t get the videos to work–she’ll have reconfigured the entire computer trying to get it to work–I can’t tell you how many times dh and I have “rescued” her computer/reset her software/replaced components. She’s good at basic word processing but beyond that–she gets confused!

That’s super Christy!! It’s so good that you’re getting more people interested in knitting…I wonder if the number of knitters goes up, will the price of yarn go DOWN!!! :happydance:

Unfortunately I don’t think so…in theory it should (I spent a fascinating (NOT) two semesters as an ECON major) but I don’t expect to see it in my life time.

I have aspirations to start a yarn store (which will most likely never happen due to the start-up costs)–if it ever takes off, I’ll do a study for you and let you know! LOL!
