You can see these in the whatcha knitting forum–can’t do an attachment here.
~~Notes: I knit this on the fly and didn’t really make a pattern first. Then I mailed them out without getting an overall size, but they were approximately 8"x10" as a finished product. I look at purses like this-we change bags often and fancy yarn isn’t practical in this case. So, stash bust, use up that acrylic, whatever, just wing it! I used circular needles but knit these flat, in garter stitch throughout. I did not block. It’s gonna be filled with all sorts of stuff and get all out of shape anyway. It’s “shabby chic”. You can add edging if you want to the flap, knit little flowers or whatever and pin them on and take them off as you wish. You can sew buttons, beads, do whatever. Have fun!
~~Construction: These were knit from the top of the front panel, cast off/on some stitches for the slot handle, down the front, around and up the back panel, cast off/on some stitches for the back handle, then over the top for the flap, again with cast off/on some stitches for the flap handle.
~~Stuff: 1 skein Lion’s Brand Homespun yarn in Gothic(purple) or Edwardian (black and white)
1 skein Caron Perfect Match yarn in black
size 11 circular needles or straight needles
~~To do: CO 27 stitches (I used the long-tail method). Knit 2 rows.
Row 3: Knit 8 stitches. Bind off (BO) 11 stitches, then knit remaining 8 stitches.
Row 4: Knit 8 stitches. CO 11 stitches (I did a simple backwards loop). Knit last 8 stitches.
Row 5+: Knit all stitches.
Make the purse as long as you’d like, I did 27 rows. When you decide it’s long enough (and just fold the fabric to the bottom of the current slot handle to decide), then you’ll want to do the back slot handle.
Knit 8 stitches. Bind off 11 stitches, then knit remaining 8 stitches.
Next row: Knit 8 stitches. CO 11 stitches. Knit last 8 stitches.
Next *4 rows: Knit all stitches.
Those 4 rows complete the top back panel and the top of the bag. *(If you don’t want a flap over the front, only do 2 rows and bind off). To knit the front flap:
Knit 8 stitches. Bind off 11 stitches, then knit remaining 8 stitches.
Next row: Knit 8 stitches. CO 11 stitches. Knit last 8 stitches.
**Knit flap to desired length.
**To do the angled flap, K2Tog at the same end of each row. So this means, at the end of the first row but the beginning of the next.
**To do the pointed flap, K2Tog at the beginning and end of each row.
~~Finishing: Seam up using the mattress stitch.
There! Done! Quick and easy. Let me know if you do this, post some pix!
