Slipping stitches

would “sl 2 wyif” be the same as slipping 2 as if to purl?

Yeah, you could look at it that way, but it is specifying “wyif” (with yarn in front) because it is on a knit row. So you K6, with yarn in back as you always would to knit, then move the yarn forward and slip 2 stitches, etc.
