Slipping purlwise after a knit stitch?

My garter stitch pattern asks me to slip the last stitch “purl wise”. Do I move the yarn to the front before doing the slip? It makes a big difference as I start my next row with a knit stitch “with yarn in back”. The pattern is called “neck scarf” on the Martha Stewart site.

Slipping a stitch has nothing to do with where the yarn is, but how you insert the R needle into the stitch - as if to purl or as if to knit. Unless instructed otherwise, you usually slip with the yarn in back.
